Index.dat, A Windows system files that contain all the record that tracks of your online activity, where have you been on Internet, what sites you visited, list of URL-s, files and documents you recently accessed. Plus more, its role is similar to that of an index file in the field of databases, where a technique called“indexing” stores the contents of a database in a different order to help speed up query responses. Furthermore, Index.dat files stored on your computer are obviously a potential privacy threat as they can be found and viewed without your knowledge.
While doing research on Index.dat, Microsoft has not supplied an adequate explanation as to what these files are for or why they have been hidden so well. The only is these index.dat files are used to store cache of visited sites to speed up the loading of sites in Internet Explorer. But this cannot be the case because when we delete the Temporary Internet Files the “index.dat” files remain behind. Irrespective of whatever program you have been using to clean windows history they may clean but does not delete index.dat files on your computer as they protected in real time by windows operating system.
