Like – Chit Chat for Facebook Gets Updated
Finally, some good news on the Facebook
front! Facebook news that doesn’t involve stock market falls, increases in
advertising or some horrible Facebook related story.
Athena IT Limited, makers and distributors
of the first Facebook Messenger
application “Chit Chat for Facebook” have released an update to their
popular Facebook desktop client. When it was first launched back in 2009 it was
the only way in which to Facebook chat on your desktop.
According to their press release, the
current version is marked as version “1.5” whereas version “1.4-1.454” has been
distributed for over a year. So does this signify a significant update to their
Facebook IM offering? Yes, it does.
So, what has been new or improved in the
Facebook download “Chit Chat for Facebook”?
- Aggregated Facebook Status Notifications – One small window shows you the friends that have logged in and out
- Facebook Login Problems Fixed – Connectivity to the world’s favourite social networking and chat server has improved.
- Core Facebook Connectivity Change – The new version of Chit Chat features an internal DLL core that can be replaced with user’s permission remotely to avoid annoying reinstalls.
- Stability Fixes – Uses less CPU and RAM.
- Always On Top Introduced – Allows you to keep your Facebook contact list or IM windows above what you are working on
- Brand New Interface – It’s looks have been improved.
These improvements are in addition to the
benefits that Chit Chat has offered for some time, so for example:
- Shortcut Keys
- Supports proxy servers
- Available in seven languages
- Doesn’t require any other framework or application to be installed
- Customizable experience
- Change text colours and fonts
- A simple click to insert emoticons
In the intervening period between the
release of Chit Chat for Facebook 1.4 and version 1.5, Facebook have started to
promote an official version of a “Facebook Messenger” application which enables
users to chat from their desktop without their web-browser.
If you’re a frequent visitor to Facebook –
checking up on your Facebook Messages, updating your status or just casually
checking out your friends photos then you’ve probably noticed that Facebook
have started advertising the opportunity to “Chat from your desktop” as a link
on your chat list and as a link right above your Facebook Messages.
Facebook Messenger was launched in response
to the growing popularity of third party desktop messaging applications that
connect to the Facebook chat network like “Chit Chat for Facebook.”
So, how does the latest Chit Chat for
Facebook compare to Facebook’s Messenger? In summary: Favourably.
Facebook’s Messenger client is good,
functional but still very basic.
Facebook Messenger is a barebones Messenger
that requires Microsoft’s .Net platform to be installed on your computer and as
such won’t work on many machines without additional software being installed.
To conclude: In this authors opinion the
official Messenger client is still behind in terms of functionality and
usability of the unofficial Facebook Messenger by Athena IT Limited (Chit Chat
for Facebook.)
At the time of writing Chit Chat for
Facebook goes above and beyond in terms of functionality of the official
client. Check out and download Chit Chat for
Facebook version 1.5 today.
